With The Text File Reports, The Data Is Not Pulled From The Database Via The Report's Query Via The Odbc As It Is With SQL Server Reports. What Happens With The Text File Reports Is The Data Is Generated From Within Adage And Sent To A Text File. How The Data Is Formatted Is Based On The Settings In The Schema.Ini File.

So When You Were Configuring Adage To Run Crystal Reports Seamlessly, You Should Have Created Two Types Of ODBC Files Based Upon The Instructions In The ERP Crystal Reports Setup Guide.  One ODBC Accesses Your Database And It Is Utilized By The SQL Reports. The Other Is For Accessing The Data That Was Generated By Adage And Placed Into The Text File.

Regardless Of Which Type Of ODBC You Are Using, In Order To Use The Report, You Will Need To Open The Report With Crystal Reports And Update The Report With The ODBC That You Are Using To Access The Data Whether It Is In The Database Or Text File. Open The Report And Select The Menu 'Database' > 'Set Datasource Location...' >

A Frame Will Pop Up With Two Panes. One Is Called 'Current Data Source:' And The Other Is Called 'Replace With:'. Click On The Plus (+) Sign Next To The Icon 'Create New Connection' In The 'Replace With' Pane. Next, Click On The Plus (+) Sign Next To The Icon 'ODBC (RDO)' And Another Frame Will Pop Up.

Select The Text File ODBC You Created (Hopefully You Named It Something Obvious Like Tabbed Files-Crystal) And Select 'Finish'.

Then Highlight The Table You Are Going To Update By Clicking On The Table Name In The 'Current Data Source' Pane. (For The Bill Of Lading Report This Would Be The 'LADING' Table). Next, Highlight The Plus (+) Sign Next To The ODBC You Just Added In The 'Replace With:' Pane. Navigate To The Lading.Txt File And Click On It To Highlight It. Click The 'Update' Button On The Right Of The Set Datasource Location Frame. Save The Report.

So What Are Some Of The Things That Could Go Wrong With A Text File Report?

  1. The Text File ODBC Is Never Created.
  2. The ODBC Is Pointed To The Wrong Directory And It Can't Find The Data.
  3. The User Does Not Have NTFS Access To Either The Text Files Or The Report Itself (Or Both).
  4. The Report Was Not Updated With The ODBC Being Used On Site.
